My TikTok-Inspired Makeup Regrets: Products You Should Avoid
In the world of social media, TikTok has emerged as a major influencer, especially in the beauty industry. As a makeup enthusiast, I found myself succumbing to the allure of trending products showcased on the platform during 2022 and 2023. However, much to my disappointment, many of these purchases turned out to be a waste of money. In this blog post, I aim to share my personal experiences and guide you away from products that are not worth the hype.
Number One: Dior Lip Oil One of my regrettable purchases was the Dior Lip Oil. Drawn in by its attractive packaging and the relentless TikTok recommendations, I eagerly acquired this product during my trip to Europe. To my dismay, within a week of using it, my lips became dry and chapped. Moreover, the sticky consistency bothered me. Fortunately, I found an alternative that I adore—the Dior Addict Lip Maximizer. It not only plumps the lips but also offers a shimmery finish and a perfect consistency.
Number Two: Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter Initially, I incorporated the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter into my daily makeup routine. However, I eventually felt that it added too much coverage, resulting in an unnatural appearance. I decided to switch to Glossier Skin Tint, which offers lighter coverage and a more natural look. Additionally, the consistency of the Flawless Filter left something to be desired.
Number Three: Laneige Lip Mask Ironically, the Laneige Lip Mask, highly acclaimed by TikTok users, ended up causing damage to my lips and many others. Instead of nourishing and hydrating, it left my lips irritated and chapped. I discovered that an affordable alternative, Vaseline, worked wonders, providing superior moisturization at half the price.
Number Four: Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand The Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand left me torn between love and hate. While it was suitable for creating a glamorous makeup look for special occasions, using it in everyday makeup made my face appear heavily made up. Furthermore, it had an adverse effect on my makeup pouch and vanity. For daily use, I recommend the Fenty Contour Stick, which offers a cleaner and tidier application. If you desire a more dramatic look, the Fenty Contour Stick can still meet your needs with a slightly heavier application.
Number Five: CeraVe Cleanser and Moisturizer The Cerave cleanser and moisturizer, despite being highly recommended on TikTok, ended up causing breakouts on my skin. Initially, I was convinced that these products were innocent, but curiosity led me to conduct an experiment to identify the culprit. To my surprise, I discovered that these products were indeed responsible for my skin issues. As a replacement, I now use the Dior Off/On Cleanser, which, although pricier, has proven to be highly effective. For moisturizer, I swear by The Ordinary Moisturizer, which has worked wonders for my skin.
TikTok's influence in the beauty community is undeniable, but it's crucial to approach the trending products with caution. Based on my personal experiences, I urge you to avoid the Dior Lip Oil, Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter, Laneige Lip Mask, Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand, and CeraVe Cleanser and Moisturizer. Instead, consider the alternatives I've recommended to enhance your makeup collection and skincare routine. Remember, what works for others may not necessarily work for you, so it's important to make informed decisions based on your own preferences and skin type.
Pro Tip- If you ended up not loving your makeup product you can return the product within 60 day of purchase. Keep in mind to try not to do this all the time as it is wasteful.
